Nicole Fantelli, MSN, RN, NE-BC, MRMC, Chief Executive Officer

Nicole brings 16 years of healthcare experience to her role as Chief Executive Officer of Summa Rehab Hospital, including business development, sales management, utilization review, and operational performance. She recently served as regional vice president of business development for a national post-acute healthcare organization and held several leadership roles within Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Hospitals.

Nicole began her career as a registered nurse, giving her a deep understanding of both patient care and healthcare operations. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and a master’s degree in nursing from Chamberlain University. She also holds the Nurse Executive Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Medical Rehabilitation Management Certification from the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association.

When not at work, Nicole enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons, being outdoors, traveling, and reading.

Dr. Jeffrey Sanderson M.D., FAAPMR, Medical Director

Dr Sanderson has over 20 years of experience in outpatient and inpatient hospital PM&R patient care. He has been the Medical Director at Summa Rehab Hospital since its opening in 2012. He now exclusively devotes his time to providing inpatient medical care for his patients and is passionate about helping them achieve their optimal functional independence and quality of life.

A lifelong Ohio native, Dr. Sanderson grew up in Northeast Ohio and completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Cincinnati. While in undergraduate studies, he also became an EMT on a life squad to help prepare him for his ultimate goal of becoming a physician. He is a proud Buckeye, as he graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr Sanderson completed a year Preliminary Internal Medicine Internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital Ohio Health and stayed at OSU for his subsequent 3 year residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He is board certified in PM&R and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

Dr Sanderson resides in the Akron area with his wife and is most proud of his 3 children. He enjoys many outdoor activities and most avidly loves skiing.

Dr. Brandon Weeks, MD., Associate Medical Director

Brandon D. Weeks M.D. is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Doctor at Summa Rehabilitation Hospital. He is also currently Medical Staff President and Associate Medical Director. He specializes in the diagnosis and management of adult neuromuscular disorders, their impact on a patient’s life, and recovery/improvement of quality of life. Dr. Weeks also served as Medical Director of Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital and ran their Electromyography/Nerve Conduction Study (EMG/NCS) lab from 2017 until early 2022. Prior to that, he was in private practice in the Akron area where he was a PM&R medical staff member at Summa Rehabilitation Hospital, Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation Hospital, and covered the EMG/NCS lab at Akron General Hospital.

He is a member of AAPMR and maintains his board certification with ABPMR.

Dr. Weeks grew up locally in Kent, Ohio. He completed his medical school training at NEOUCOM (now NEOMED) in Rootstown, Ohio in 2008. He then went on to complete an intern year and residency training at The Ohio State University in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2012.

Dr. Weeks enjoys spending time with his family, the outdoors, and biking.

Sharon Souliere, BSN, RN, CCM, Director of Patient Outcomes

Licensed as a RN since 1981 in the state of Ohio. Obtained BSN from Walsh University- Canton, Ohio 1991. Certified in Case Management since 2017.

Initially worked in acute hospital setting at Timken Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio- 1981-1991. Worked Medical-Surgical units, Acute Rehabilitation as charge nurse, and Oncology unit.

1991-1997- Worked VNS-Hospice – as RN, in direct patient care for 4 yrs. Developed and managed the admissions team, while taking on the role as hospital and community Liaison. Developed the 1st Hospice care program in collaboration with Skilled nursing facilities in Stark County, Ohio in 1995. Provided Hospice education, and pain management education to the skilled facilities. Started with 6 facilities, grew within 1 year to 12 facilities able to provide care and support to hospice patients throughout the community.

1997-2000- Case manager – on a 36 bed, medical unit, in an acute care hospital, taking care of discharge plans and utilization reviews.

2000-2007- Worked at Summa Care Insurance company as a case manager and utilization review nurse for admissions and continued stays to skilled nursing, rehabilitation and LTAC facilities. Worked with skilled nursing facilities in the Summa Care network, on-sight to attend conferences, meet with clients and along with the facility, plan safe discharges to home, while assessing needs for continued stay.

2007-2017- Manager of Case Management and Utilization review at Summa Western Reserve Hospital. Responsible for utilization review, Commercial plans, Medicare/Medicaid programs-Including all audits and appeals. Managed team of 12 for Discharge plans and utilization review.

2017- present – Director of Patient Outcomes at Summa Rehab Hospital.

Nickole Hornbeck PT, DPT, Director of Clinical Support Services

Nickole Hornbeck, PT, DPT is a licensed physical therapist with a broad clinical and leadership background spanning acute care, pediatrics, outpatient neurology, and orthopedics. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, and her

Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Nickole began her career as a practicing physical therapist in 2017, gaining experience across multiple care settings. In 2020, she joined Ernest Health in Flagstaff, Arizona as a PRN Physical Therapist, later transitioning into a full-time role. Her strong clinical insight and passion for outcomes-driven care led her into progressive leadership positions, including Director of Patient Outcomes.

In 2023, Nickole advanced into a regional leadership role with Ernest Health, supporting multiple rehabilitation hospitals across the West Coast. Upon returning to Ohio—where she proudly calls home—she also began supporting Summa Rehab Hospital. She currently serves as the Director of Clinical Support Services at Summa Rehab Hospital, where she collaborates closely with Hospital Operations, Therapy, and Case Management to enhance clinical quality, operational efficiency, and patient-centered care.

Outside of work, Nickole enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and two dogs, traveling to new places to hike and explore.

Maryann Mousetes BSN RN, Director of Compliance

Maryann Mousetes is a nurse with more than two decades of progressive healthcare experience. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kent State University and began her nursing career in 2005 as a staff nurse on a step-down unit at a hospital in Canton, Ohio. Demonstrating strong clinical expertise and a natural ability to lead, she advanced to the role of Supervisor on the same unit.

In 2012, Maryann joined Summa Rehab Hospital as a Supervisor and has since held several key leadership positions, including Infection Preventionist and Clinical Compliance Specialist. She currently serves as Director of Compliance, where she is committed to fostering a culture of accountability, patient safety, and continuous improvement. Her diverse background across clinical operations, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance equips her with a comprehensive perspective on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

Maryann draws inspiration from a favorite quote by Winston Churchill: “Kites rise highest against the wind, not with it.” This belief reflects her resilient leadership style and her commitment to guiding teams through challenges with integrity and determination.

Outside of her professional role, Maryann enjoys spending time in her garden (or browsing her favorite gardening stores), baking in the kitchen, and perusing her extensive cookbook collection. At home, she and her husband stay busy keeping up with their two children—and the two yellow labs who happily run the household.

Lauren Sweet, M.A., CCC-SLP, Director of Therapy Operations

Lauren Sweet, M.A., CCC-SLP, serves as the Director of Therapy Operations at Summa Rehab Hospital, providing oversight for all inpatient and outpatient therapy services. In this role, she leads interdisciplinary teams, advances program development, and ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care that reflects the hospital’s mission and values.

A dedicated member of the Summa Rehab Hospital team since 2017, Lauren has consistently demonstrated a passion for clinical innovation and community impact. She established an Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) partnership with The University of Akron to expand access to communication tools for patients with complex needs. She co-founded the outpatient Head and Neck Cancer Clinic and developed its supplemental support group to provide long-term support for survivors. As Brain Injury Specialty Lead Therapist, she guided the development and adaptation of hospital protocols, aligning them with the latest evidence-based standards. Lauren continues to contribute regionally through her participation in the NEOBIF TBI Collaborative, promoting education and advocacy in traumatic brain injury rehabilitation. Prior to coming to Summa Rehab, Lauren worked in skilled nursing and home health care.

A proud Akron native, Lauren earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech-language pathology from The University of Akron. During her undergraduate years, she was a member of the track and field team, serving as team captain in her junior and senior seasons. She credits her athletic background with shaping her leadership philosophy, emphasizing teamwork, resilience, and accountability—values that continue to shape her as both a clinician and a leader. Lauren is honored to care for the patients and families of the city of Akron and throughout northeast Ohio.

Lauren finds fulfillment in balancing her calling to serve in healthcare with her personal life as a wife and mother of three daughters. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with family, playing volleyball with friends, and sharing life’s adventures with her husband.

Sharon Souliere, BSN, RN, CCM, Director of Patient Outcomes

Sharon Souliere is a seasoned nursing leader with over four decades of experience in clinical care, case management, and healthcare operations. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Walsh University and began her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio, where she built a diverse clinical foundation serving in Medical-Surgical, Oncology, Hospice, Rehabilitation, Utilization Review, and Case Management roles.

In 2001, Sharon joined Summa Health System. Over the past 18 years, she has provided strategic leadership in managing Case Management and Utilization Review departments, driving quality outcomes, operational excellence, and patient-centered care initiatives.

In 2016, Sharon joined Summa Rehab Hospital and was the Director of Case Management and in 2023 became the Director of Patient Outcomes, where she continues to lead with a focus on quality improvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and optimizing patient experiences across the continuum of care.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Sharon enjoys spending time with family and friends, relaxing at the beach, and embracing the outdoors. She has a passion for gardening, attending concerts, and Pilates.

Her personal philosophy reflects her positive and driven approach to leadership: “Believe you can, and you’re halfway there.”

Michael Shelley, PharmD, RPh, Director of Pharmacy

Michael Shelley earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University in 2016 and has built a career centered on patient advocacy, clinical excellence, and compassionate pharmaceutical care.

He began his pharmacy career in the community setting, serving patients at CVS Pharmacy before advancing to Pharmacy Manager at Klein’s Pharmacy. In these roles, he developed a strong foundation in medication management and patient counseling, with a particular passion for engaging directly with patients to improve their understanding of therapies and enhance their quality of life.

In 2025, Mike joined Summa Rehab Hospital as Director of Pharmacy. In this leadership role, he is committed to fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and patient-centered care. He works to ensure that medication regimens are not only clinically appropriate, but also manageable, affordable, and sensible for each patient’s unique health journey. Guided by the principle of always advocating for what is right for the patient, he strives to support both clinical teams and patients in achieving optimal outcomes.

Outside of work, he enjoys working out, watching movies, playing video games, and spending quality time with his family. He and his wife are proud parents to a son and share their home with two cats and a dog.
