Glenn Weiglin
Success Story
Glenn Weiglin enjoys working as a facility manager and spending time with his wife and four children. His life changed one evening, as his arm began to feel strange while sitting on the couch petting his dog. His wife called 911 and he was transported to the hospital. It was determined he had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, a life-threatening condition caused by bleeding in or around the brain. After initial treatment at the hospital, it was recommended he begin his recovery at Summa Rehab Hospital.
When Glenn arrived at Summa Rehab Hospital, he couldn’t move his right leg and he had limited mobility with his right hand. He spent a month working with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, including occupational therapists Jackie and Abby, and physical therapists Megan and Amir.
Glenn describes his therapists, “They were fantastic!” “James, the therapy director, was very encouraging and Asia, another physical therapist, had an upbeat attitude that motivated me.” Glenn also says, “Dr. Week’s encouragement and humor were unforgettable.”
After a month of therapy, which included using specialized equipment and constant repetitive activity, Glenn’s right arm got stronger and he was able to take small steps with a walker. He now continues his therapy through the hospital’s outpatient neuro program, attending twice a week.
“I’m motivated to do more things on my own and put this chapter of my life to bed,” he says.
Glenn attended his daughter’s graduation and now aspires to be independent enough to return to work. “I’m thankful I had the opportunity to recover at Summa Rehab Hospital,” he says. “And thank you to my family. You were very important in my recovery process.”
